LoveLight

Empowering South African Youth to envision a brighter future

Thank you for your interest in our work—welcome to the community!

What is LoveLight?

LoveLight is a service program committed to building pathways and partnerships with underserved South African communities. We would love to work with you in building it together.

Focus: Education for the Under-served

In many of our world’s impoverished areas, apathy and inertia can easily breed hoplessness in the community. Since 2002, LoveLight has partnered with the under-served, rural community of Riviersonderend (RSE), South Africa, in building opportunities for their youth and the support they need to complete their education. You can be part of this program that has catapulted their high school graduation rate from an annual average of two to 20 grads—you can even sponsor a graduate to get started at University to join the ranks of over 30 first-generation RSE youth to attend college!

How Does LoveLight Work?

LoveLight is built on the dedication and tenacity of local RSE community members who, like you, want to see a change in their community and support for the community’s youth. We assist them in building their own programs, which you can now support: the Ubuntu Camp and the University support program.

RSE LoveLight Programs

  • Ubuntu Camp

Ubuntu Camp is a transformational youth leadership retreat, modeled after the International Youth of Unity. This event is led by local RSE teens in English, which greatly supports their success in studies in school. Students from the local school clamor for spots in this camp, whose admission is based on academic and behavioral marks of success.

  • University Support

The University support program assists new grads in overcoming the challenges of admin and textbook fees, travel, meals, and navigating the culture shock and homesickness of moving to a big city away from home. Your contributions support their success!

  • International Youth of Unity Event

When funds allow, LoveLight will send the Ubuntu Camp youth leadership team to the United States for the International Youth of Unity Event, hosted at Unity Village, MO. This international, week-long retreat focuses on universal new thought spiritual principles and leadership development, as well as self confidence, esteem, and connecting to a broader community.

  • While they are stateside, the teens also experience a new culture and educational sight-seeing, as well as connect with an American host family for the experience of a lifetime. This is a much-coveted experience for youth in the RSE community, and a great honor for the youth who are lucky enough to participate.
